What is Independent Study?

Independent study is a voluntary learning alternative to traditional classrooms. It is aligned with the California content standards, and all credits are transferable to other schools.

Independent Study Requirements:

Reading level and self-discipline are essential. Coursework may include:
  • Readings, videos, and tests
  • Worksheets, essays, and projects

Teachers review assignments and provide feedback. Any work earning below a C will be returned for revisions.

How Does ACCT Work?

Mr. Gomez, the student, and the parents collaborate to create a personalized plan based on the student’s transcript and graduation goals. This ensures that all district and state requirements are met through coursework and testing.

Students must complete their weekly assignments and check in with their teacher at least once a week. Work can be completed anywhere.

Students behind on credits may benefit from the Diploma Plus program.

Diploma Plus Program:

  • Requires completion of ten state-mandated and district-required courses
Students must pass the High School Equivalency Exam to earn their diploma

Typical Student Workflow:

  • Work on one or two classes at a time
  • Complete assignments such as readings, videos, tests, and essays
  • Attend class regularly for teacher support
  • Revise any work earning below a C for credit
