Program Overview
These two competency-based courses will teach students the skills, laws and regulations required to get their guard cards and prepare for and/or advance security employment.
The competencies in all of the following courses are aligned with the California High School Academic Content Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standard.Security Officer Trainee 1 (40 Hours)
Brief Course Description: This competency-based course is the first in an optional sequence of two designed to prepare students for entry-level employment as a security officer and obtain a 40-hour guard card. Emphasis is placed on orientation and safety, powers of arrest, weapons of mass destruction and terrorism, public relations, observation and documentation, communication protocols, liability/legal aspects, evacuation procedures, officer safety, access and crowd control, courtroom demeanor, parking/traffic control, fire safety, and employability skills.

Security Officer Trainee 2 (90 Hours)
Brief Course Description: This optional second competency-based course is designed to further prepare students for employment as security officers and advance present security skills and knowledge. Technical instruction includes: orientation, safety policies and procedures, and employability skills. Emphasis is placed on: powers of arrest, weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and terrorism, public relations, observation and documentation, communication protocols, liability/legal aspects, transportation security officer, evacuation procedures, officer safety, arrest, search and seizure, access control, trespass, first aid and CPR, handling difficult people, workplace violence, chemical agents, preserving the incident scene, crowd control, courtroom demeanor, parking/traffic control, and fire safety.

Separate costs for books, exams, supplies, preparation, certifications and/or licenses provided by outside vendors may be incured.
Once a Certificate of Completion is earned in a course, that course cannot be repeated.
