Networking
Program Overview
The Networking Technician program consists of three classes and focuses on preparing individuals for a career in networking. The final course prepares individuals for entry-level industry exams like the CCNA, which is designed to validate your knowledge on fundamental networking concepts often requested in networking roles in IT positions.
The competencies in all of the following courses are aligned with the California High School Academic Content Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standard.Networking 1 (180 Hours)
Brief Course Description: This competency-based course is the first in a sequence of two courses designed to prepare students to pass the Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) examination. Emphasis is placed on data bus, memory, network storage devices, communication ports, input and output devices, communication with other computers, portable computers, hardware configuration, operating systems, introduction to computer networking, introduction to network operating systems, connecting to the network and logging in, accessing data files on the network, OSI model, IEEE networking specifications, networking architecture, network layout design, networking media, networking interface cards, network protocols, and the network operating system.

Networking 2 (180 hours)
Brief Course Description: This competency-based course is the second in a sequence of two courses designed to prepare students to pass the Interconnecting Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) examination. Emphasis is placed on setting up user accounts and login security, setting up the network file system, managing the file system, file system security, multi-vendor networks, network transmission, network management, setting up network printing, creating login scripts, configuring network applications for users, network fault tolerance, the internet, backing up servers and workstations, performing a simple network installation, and network test review including study guides and simulated online testing.

Networking 3: CCNA Preparation (180 hours)
Brief Course Description: This competency-based course is designed to provide students with an introduction to network administration and prepare them for the opportunity to obtain the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)—an entry-level information technology (IT) certification issued by networking hardware company Cisco. It includes a review of the micro-computer, DOS, Windows, an understanding of the relationship of desktop hardware and software to the network, general networking concepts, and reinforcement of the relationship between desktop networking components.

Once a Certificate of Completion is earned in a course, that course cannot be repeated.
